ORCS are designed to cool shallow coral waters as needed to maintain 73°F (22.8°C) – 79°F (26.1°C) or higher will provide various environmental, ecological, and socio-economic benefits

  • ORCS Oceanic and Atmospheric Impacts

    • Reduced Storm Intensity; Warmer waters fuel hurricanes and typhoons. Cooling coastal waters will reduce the frequency and intensity of these storms near coastlines.
    • Impact on weather systems is minimal, preventing thermal gradients and or altering wind patterns.
  • ORCS Environmental Benefits

    • ORCS can also be deployed in polar regions to reduce ice melting thus slowing the melting of polar ice caps.
    • Carbon sequestration with cooler waters typically holds more dissolved CO₂, which will slightly mitigate atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations.
    • Biodiversity preservation reduces thermal stress to help preserve some endangered species adapted to cooler climates
  • ORCS Ecological Values

    Marine Life

    • Coral Reef ecosystems will greatly benefit, as temperatures above 86°F cause bleaching. ORCS also gradually reduces the water temperatures to prevent shocking the corals, preventing any stress or die-offs.
    • Plankton growth in cooler temperatures will enhance plankton growth, which forms the base of the marine food chain, affecting everything from small fish to whales.
  • Coastal Ecosystems

    • Cooler waters will significantly reduce harmful algal blooms, often exacerbated by higher temperatures.
    • Mangroves, seagrass, and salt marshes will also experience increased growth rates.
    • ORCS Socio-Economic Implications
  • Fishing Industry

    • Cooler waters attract species that are valuable to commercial fishing, benefiting regions economically.
      Insurance Industry
⦁ Cooler waters reduce the size/strength of hurricanes/cyclones saving insurance companies billions of dollars in claims.
      Citizens and Infrastructure
⦁ Cooler waters provide less damage to homes, companies, and overall infrastructure.
